Short answer: Tiao recommends children start guzheng from age 6 or above. The guzheng sounds lovely from the very first lesson, which gives kids a quick sense of achievement. Start with a HK$200 trial (guzheng loan included) so the teacher can gauge your child's focus and coordination before you pick group or 1-to-1 lessons.
Every child is different, and the teacher can assess readiness during the trial.

| Group | 1-to-1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | HK$1,080 for 4 lessons | See course page |
| Strengths | Peers, ensemble feel; aims for one tune in 4 lessons | Fully tailored pace |
| Best for | Building interest, kids who enjoy company | Shy children, focused exam prep |
Enjoyment first; exams are an optional goal. Tiao's teachers help students prepare for graded exams. The HKEAA-run Central Conservatory of Music exam includes guzheng, and guzheng candidates may bring their own instrument or use one provided at the venue (chosen at application) — handy for families. See our Guzheng Exam Guide and the official HKEAA page.
No. The trial includes an instrument loan; buy once you're sure your child is keen. Our Guzheng Buying Guide will help when the time comes.
